Demon Slayer Review: Easily the Best in The Decade

When is Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba season 2 releasing? A question that everyone has been searching Google since season one of the anime ended in October last year. Now, it is on Netflix, and we cannot be happier! This Demon Slayer spoiler-free review will answer this question and more. So, let's get started!

Overview

With 26 episodes, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba follows two siblings, Tanjiro Kamada and Nezuko Kamada. On his return home from the village after selling charcoal, Tanjiro finds his family slaughtered by demons, and the only survivor, his sister Nezuko is turned into a demon. In a quest for revenge for his murdered family and to turn his sister back into a human, Tanjiro decides to become a demon slayer. Check out Demon Slayer's trailer down below.

The anime aired in Japan from April to October 2019, and now it is finally available globally on Netflix.

Review: One of the Finest Animations

  • The boy that gave 'being strong-headed' a new meaning Saying that Tanjiro Kamada is headstrong and dedicated would be the understatement of the year. However, that boy certainly does have a very strong head. Just look at that demon's face after being headbutted by Tanjiro.

However, aside from having a strong head (not just physically), Tanjiro is one of the strongest and kindest people I have ever come across. His kindness rivals that of Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket. In the words of Agatsuma Zenistu, "He is so kind that it makes me cry."
If that wasn't enough, he is worthy enough to be awarded the best brother and son award. The way he took care of and protected his demon sister is what makes him one of the best Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba characters.

  • The badass girl with a mean kick Speaking of Tanjiro's sister Nezuko Kamada, she is a natural fighter, literally and figuratively. She is one of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba characters that I truly admire. She may not yet be as powerful as the other demons, but she packs a punch with the retained humanity in her.
Just look at that kick! She took having someone's back to a whole new level. The compassion she has for humans, which makes her resist the innate hunger for human flesh, is unseen in demons, in general. However, her lack of consumption of human flesh does in no way weaken her. Instead, it somehow seems to make her stronger. Look at her stand up to the demon with a Temari.
A bond that made a demon jealous
When it comes to reviewing Demon Slayer, one cannot avoid talking about the central theme of the show-- Tanjiro and Nezuko's bond. Their mutual love is obvious on several occasions the two fight to protect one another. Nezuko almost sacrificed herself saving her brother from a strong demon (as seen above), and Tanjiro headbutts a Hashira, his senior, to protect her.
The strength of their bond saved Nezuko from becoming a blood-thirsty demon and to retain her humanity. It is also to protect and cure her that pushed Tanjiro to hold on and fight in difficult situations. To be honest, I really do prefer sibling protagonists like them over a veiled love story that many stories of the same genre have. A story that sells There is no way this Demon Slayer spoiler-free review will not talk about just how good the story is. From meticulous world-building to a wonderful concept, the anime's story deserves a blog post of its own. There are only 26 demon slayer episodes, and yet the anime has managed to thoroughly introduce us to the world of demons and demon slayers while keeping the details of the real world intact. Moreover, the subtext in the anime concept and choosing to focus on demons stories are the jewels of the Demon Slayer. Animation that is on fire Just a few minutes into any of the 26 Demon Slayer episodes will tell you how great the animation of this anime is. Every little detail of every character is highlighted in every scene and sequence. Each fight sequence in the anime was extremely detailed that I was able to drink in every movement Tanjiro made. Demon slayer is probably the one anime that I felt stood on par with the Hollywood movies filled with VFX effects.

This scene from episode 19 gave me the chills and goosebumps at the same time. Just look at that illustration. It is the epitome of perfection!

Final Verdict
So, what is the final verdict? Should you or shouldn't you watch the Demon Slayer?
If you love some great animation, an amazing concept without cliches, power-packed action, and fast pace, this is the best anime you will ever see.

Will there be a Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba season 2?
At present, there is no confirmed report for a second season. However, based on how there is a lot left in the story that remains unexplained, a second season is to be expected. Moreover, fans will have a Demon Slayer movie to look forward to, which will pick up from where the first season ended. It will follow the battle against a lower moon demon in the infinity train. It was recently confirmed the Kimetsu no Yaiba movie release date to be October 16, 2020, in Japan. However, with the current COVID breakout, there could be possible delays in the release. Check out the trailer below:
