Dangerous Lies Review: What Works and What Doesn’t

To watch or not to watch? Is the question when it comes to Dangerous Lies
Netflix’s latest addition to its original films list. In this review, you will find the
answer to your dilemma by knowing what works and what doesn’t, in the
Netflix original.

Dangerous Lies: Overview
Katie Franklin, along with her husband Adam Kettner, is struggling to pay the
bills and is an in-home caretaker of 88-year-old Leonard Wellesley. A sudden
windfall after Leonard’s death leaves Katie with a solution to her money
problems, but also with some nasty secrets.

Dangerous Lies Review: Cunningly Misleading
Can I say that misleading us with catchy descriptions has become Netflix’s
prime hobby? One look at Dangerous Lies’ description, and you would think
the leading character, Katie, is involved in a conspiracy to have gained the
windfall wealth. But the truth is nowhere close.
However, it is the movie’s way of keeping you on your toes by injecting doubt
in you is what makes this movie rather interesting. Here is what I think works and doesn’t in the movie:
● What Works: The Red Herring

David Golden has done a wonderful job of making the viewer doubt everyone
in Dangerous Lies Netflix film. From the situations and their vague dialogues to
their characterization, almost everyone in the movie, at some point, becomes a
red herring and comes under the lens of suspicion. However, there is one
character, I wouldn’t tell who, that is the subject of everyone’s suspicion until
they are proven innocent.
● What Doesn’t Work: The Police Officer

One thing that just did not make sense in the movie was Detective Chesler,
played by Sasha Alexander. She seemed unnecessarily and inexplicably
adamant on proving Wellesley’s death as a murder. Throughout the movie, she
was partly responsible for creating so many red herrings, making the viewers
doubt the characters. Do detectives really have time to investigate the windfall
of a caregiver and her husband?
● What Works: The Casting

Dangerous Lies 2020 cast is yet another factor that clicks with the movie. Their
characters made sure the confusing ways of the script worked its charm and
made us suspicious. Riverdale actress Camila Mendes plays the lead, Katie, and
Jessie T Usher assumed the role of her husband, Adam. Their on-screen
chemistry, though not rivaling that of Veronica and Archie, was convincing
enough to be involved in their story. Jamie Chung, Cam Gigandet, and Sasha
Alexander played their respective roles aptly as well. However, Elliott Gould
takes the cake for his Leonard, who has similarities to Gould’s Jack Geller in
Friends.
What Doesn’t Work: The Rushed Ending

The ending of Dangerous Lies feels rather rushed with the subplots of the
movie not given time to develop to its full extent. I feel Jamie Chung and Cam
Gigandet’s backstory needed more time to have developed effectively. This is
not to say the ending was a letdown. On the contrary, it ends with a decision
waiting for Katie, who, may I say, is the luckiest person in the movie. You will
see what I am talking about when you watch the movie.
Final Verdict
After all, is said and done, is Dangerous Lies Netflix’s latest addition worth your
time?
Yes. The movie is worth a watch. Despite the flaws in its script, Dangerous Lies
movie is one that will keep you guessing and second-guessing.
